Access Control Systems, Smart cards, Swipe cards and Magnetic Stripe cards

VisionID are specialist suppliers of Access control cards, smart cards – Contactless Memory cards, Contact memory cards, Microprocessor cards, Proximity cards, magnetic stripe cards and Card Bureau Personalisation. Working indirectly with the Emerging Markets such as Access control, Vending, Loyalty, and Transport.

In addition to using Zebra card supplies we outsource to High quality European and Asian suppliers for our plastic cards, these are tested first by us and the factories are visited before we supply into Ireland.

After each process in the production chain the card will go through a QC procedure before being passed on, we also have our own people that can go in and check the quality at any point during the production to make sure the standard is what we would expect.

Hold high levels of stock of Mifare 1k and 4k, EM4102 prox, Magnetic stripe cards and swipe cards.

Pre-printed Cards we offer a 3 week lead time from proof approval. All of these cards can be used with Plastic card printers. The card printer we offer can print onto access control, proximity, magnetic stripe and smart cards. Also some models like the Zebra P330i or P430i can be supplied with an internal encoder to encode onto a contact or contactless card i.e. legic chip encoding or mifare encoding. Proximity encoders for HID can also be provided on the Plastic Card Printers we offer.

There many different types of cards available:

Proximity Cards

Prox cards of which the most common:

  • Different types available...
  • Em4102, Em4100 etc... (EM41.. soon to be replaced with EM42.. range)
  • HID Prox cards
  • Paxton Prox cards
  • Encoded with a Unique ID number used for access control
  • This would not be classed as a Smartcard

Generally used for access control systems.

Legic Cards

The LEGIC technology operates at 13.56 MHz. This frequency offers benefits like e.g. tamper proofed data transmission, faster card reading/writing, copy protection of card content over none secure 125kHz frequency systems.

LEGIC may be used for the following applications:

  • Access control
  • Biometrics
  • Time and attendance
  • Door locks
  • Electronic purse for cashless vending and payments
  • PC Log-on
  • Locker locks
  • Parking
  • Training records
  • Loyalty and membership programs
  • Photo copier
  • Transit passes, etc.

EGIC transponder chips with either 2kbits (256Bytes), 8kbits (1kBytes) or 16kbits (2kBytes) of memory size.

Due to the integrated Plug & Play applications handling any transponder can store up to 127 different applications.

Any such applications can be freely configured in terms of its size (any size from 6 to 1024 byte per application) and its security level (read only, read/write, read/write with conditions, etc..).

In comparison to fixed block allocation systems (e.g. HID iClass, Mifare etc.) LEGIC can offer up to 98% of its chip memory for application data (e.g biometric templates) without the waste of valuable memory. Due to the flexible application handling (like files on a floppy disk) any LEGIC applications is stored and handled independently of each other.

Sample application structure LEGIC card (2K/8K/16Kbit) e.g. cashless vending. access, parking, biometricsUnique biometrics The LEGIC product line offers read/write ranges of approximately 4.5" (11.4cm = proximity), 12" (30.4cm = semi hands-free) and 24" (61cm = hands-free). As with any contactless systems, read range is a function of the size of the reader, the size/form factor of the transponder, and is dependent upon local installation conditions. Larger readers, when used with the standard transponder(card), will provide the longer read range.

Contact Cards

These are memory cards which have a protected memory. They have read/write and read only capabilities. They have an open platform proprietary microposser. Contact cards can be broken down into Open Memory card and Protected Memory cards.

Open Memory Cards have an unprotected or free memory mainly Atmel or Infineion Silicon AT24C256. They are a high memory storage product (256 bytes > 128k byte), they are always read/write, there is no restriction on accessing memory, no protected area no CSC.

Protected Memory Cards come protected, they have come with a PIN to lock data. They read always and write protected such as the SLE4442/28, they have a maximum of 8k bits/ 1K Byte

Contactless cards

Contactless cards and memory cards such as

  • Mifare – Philips / Infineon 13.56mhz
  • Legic – 13.56mhz

They are based on the ISO 14443 standards or ISO15693, They have the ability to read/write to separate memory areas. They have varying memory sizes from 1K up to 8K (desfire and Mifare plus. These cards can be used in a wide variety of applications from Access Control, transport, cashless vending, etc.

Mifare Cards

Mifare cards are the most commonly used contactless cards on the market. The mifare card has 16 sectors available for encoding. Each sector can be locked using different access and transport keys to the above. Each Mifare has a unique card ID encoded in hex format. Some applications set up suing the card identity.

Mifare is an interface platform for contactless smart cards and readers according to the ISO14443 A Standard. It has emerged as the de facto standard with its proven RF communication between card and reader.

Today, over tens of millions of Mifare Standard IC’s are in use all around the world and it is the benchmark for competing technologies. Main Uses:

  • Physical Access Control
  • Public Transport
  • Logical Access Control
  • Cashless Vending
  • Parking
  • Loyalty Card
  • Leisure card
  • Toll Card
  • Identification Cards
  • Student/Campus Card
    / School Card

The main features of Mifare are:

  • k byte (8k bits) EEPROM memory based on a standard Mifare 1 chip
  • 16 sectors, each protected with separate access rights
  • Carries out read/write at a distance up to 10 centimetres
  • Energy and data transmission via 13.56 MHz
  • Operating Frequency – chip power supply and data carried by the RF signal
  • Compliant with ISO14443 A, the international standard for contactless smart cards
  • Anti-collision - multiple cards are addressed even if several cards come into contact with the reader
  • 100,000 write operations
  • Encrypted data transmission between the card and reader to ensure confidentiality and protection

Specifications:

  • Operating Frequency: 13.56 MHz
  • Total Memory Capacity: 1024 bytes x 8 bit EEPROM
